The 22nd Annual Lytle Scholarship Concert featuring five of the finest jazz pianists from Southern California including Kei Akagi, Cecil Lytle, Tobin Chodos, Mike Wofford, and Josh White. Each artist will perform individually, then join together on five concert grand pianos to perform a finale of Thelonious Monk and Miles Davis compositions.

Special event for Black History Month: Meet Professor Cecil Lytle and learn about the courses and excursions for the Jazz in Paris Global Seminar in Paris, France. We will also discuss financial aid, scholarships, and the application process. Paris, (the home of revolutions in dress, politics, food, and wine) was the first country outside of the United States to embrace and promote American jazz in the 20th century. The black military bands serving abroad during World War I returned to Paris to create a "Second Harlem" in the Montmartre District.

Join Assistant Professor of Education Studies, Sherice Clarke, in a brown bag lunch discussion on the essay and Du Bois’ argument as it concerns the education of students of color in Trump’s America.

Two screenings of a 35-minute film on the making of the Chicano Legacy mural at Peterson Hall, the African American history mural in the Price Center, and the Sojourner Truth statue at TMC. The role of student activism in transforming the campus environment with works of public art is the theme of the documentary.

Trooper Rachel Hilliard of the San Diego Chapter Buffalo Soldiers will share the rich history of the Buffalo Soldiers.

This 2012 film directed by Kim Nguyen deals with the dilemmas of a twelve-year-old girl who is forced to become a child soldier in Congo (DRC). A panel led by Provost Ivan Evans and the AAASRC Board will discuss the film. Running Time For the Film: 90 minutes. This event is open to the campus community and the general public.
