    Medical Pioneers: Dr. Charles Drew and Vivien Thomas
    February–April 2008
    Medical Center Library, Hillcrest

    Profiles two life-saving medical inventors: (1) Dr. Charles Drew who invented procedure for separating plasma for transfusions allowing creation of the blood bank. He later became the first Director of the Red Cross Blood Bank. (2) Vivien Thomas, a Surgical Technician who pioneered the blue baby procedure saving lives of infants with circulatory failure. Dr. Thomas was later given an honorary degree by Johns Hopkins and appointed instructor in surgery at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. Free.
