Stitching Memories. The Story of African American Quilting

Social Sciences and Humanities Library, West Wing, 2nd Floor

Like women before them, these quilters have created vibrant, beautiful quilts from new, reused, reclaimed and found materials. Their remarkable work encompasses both traditional and contemporary styles. And through their work and a panel discussion, they, too have a story to tell.

This lecture examines the routes and rationales and factors that influence migration and how real and imagined expectations fuel this movement. The talk underscores how a better understanding of these multiple border crossings is a prerequisite for understanding the migration experiences of Somalis around the globe.
